I will help facilitate a discussion tonight on Bigelow and Vokoun's book. Here are some of my concerns with chapter 1:
On page 1, Bigelow and Vokoun state that "Very little long-term scientific research exists in the area of student choice in the classroom." Only "classroom-based action research ... supports the idea of engaging student learners by providing them power over what and how they learn."
1. What evidence presented convinces you (or would convince your school administrators) that choice enhances learning?
2. How can we objectively assess successful learning in our classrooms through student choice? (Can we assess it?)
3. What would you include in your rubric?
